This training is designed to provide an understanding and appreciation of managing safety when handling and transporting Dangerous Goods (DG). It highlights Global Harmonised System-GHS concerning testing, classification and communication of hazards using Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and hazard pictograms and connects it with the DG transport recommendations.

At the end of the programme, participants will be able to:

  • Define what DG are and the differences between substances and articles
  • Describe the various international and domestic rules and provisions concerning DG
  • List out the classes of DG and the concept of packing groups versus hazard categories
  • Briefly describe the types of "Proper Shipping Names-PSN" used for DG and the role of the UN numbering system
  • Describe the functions of the various sections in the safety data sheet
  • Demonstrate how DG has to contained, packaged, marked, labeled and described in documents during transport and transit
  • Indicate methods to prevent adverse incidences relating to DG
  • Understanding the commercial risks involved in improper storage, handling and transport of DG
